REGULATIONS AND GUIDELINES FOR MULTI-ACADEMY TRUSTS
Multi-Academy Trust regulations are complex and are clearly set out in various government papers. They govern the operations of a Multi-Academy Trust (MAT).
Some of the key regulations relating to MATs include:
1. Academies Financial Handbook: This sets out the financial management and control requirements for academies and MATs. It covers issues such as budgeting, financial reporting, and procurement.
2. Articles of Association: MATs must have Articles of Association that define the powers, responsibilities, and decision-making processes of the trust board and the local governing bodies of each academy within the trust.
3. Funding Agreement: This is a legal agreement between the MAT and the Secretary of State for Education that sets out the terms and conditions of the funding provided to the academy trust.
4. Governance Handbook: This provides guidance to MATs on how to operate effectively and comply with their statutory obligations, including those related to governance, accountability, and transparency.
5. Education (Independent School Standards) Regulations: MATs that run independent schools are subject to these regulations, which set out the standards that schools must meet in terms of quality of education, leadership and management, behaviour and welfare of pupils, and health and safety.
6. Data Protection and GDPR: MATs must comply with data protection laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which governs the collection, use, and storage of personal data.
7. Employment Law: MATs must comply with employment laws and regulations, including those related to fair employment practices, health and safety, and equal opportunities.
These are just a few examples of the regulations that apply to MATs. MATs must also comply with other legislation and guidelines, depending on their specific circumstances and the types of schools they operate.
